we got 1 male fighting fish today at the lfs , he is quite timid , we have been out , just got home and he is swimming upside down , and has a large white spot come up on the side of him :( he is blowing a lot of bubbles , and is just floating around hardly moving .

ammonia - 0
nitrite 1.5
nitrate 100
ph 8.5

juwel rekord 120 tank

we lost a guppy and swordtail with a similar condition :( what do we do :(

we dont want to lose another one :(

he is now on his side floating about , i think we may have to euthanase :( absolutely heartbroken :(

his tail is disintegrating

we didnt get a chance to euthanase , he died literally seconds after i posted :(

gutted rasputin was so sweet , and beautiful :(

didnt expect to come home to this

Water stats are terrible water change fast, siwmming upside down sad to say they never make it, but he might do if you do a water change fast, the white spot how big is it, does it have any fluff on it or a red circling around it, or a spot in the centre of it.

it was the same as the phantom guppy we lost , tail disintegrating , and like a white/black mottled spot on his body it was quite large .We are wondering if it could be something they are picking up from the lfs , the phantom guppy and the fighter fish were both from there , it seems that we are losing the ones with fancy tails .

rasputin died a short while ago :( poor little guy :(

about to do a water change now

all the other fish seem 100% fine .

its very odd

How long has the tank been set up, as you have a very high nitrate reading, when did you last maintain your filter.
The fish are not surviving as your water quality is bad, and fish with long finned tails are very sensitive to water quality, i wouldn't buy anymore fish till you have a nitrite reading of 0, as the tank is saying uncycled.

Need to take a closer look at your tank, how many gallons is the tank or litres, how long has it been set up, what fish are in there and what type, how much maintance do you do on the tank, and what filter are you using how many gallons does it turn over an hour.

it is on day 26 of its first cycle , the lfs said the fish would be fine as the ammonia went down :(

tank is 32 us gallons

we have 1 male and 2 female tiger swordtails
we have 1 male and 2 female pineapple swordtails
we have 1 male cobra guppy and 3 female tux guppys
we have 6 neon tetra's

filter does 600 litres per hour .

quite a lot of maintenence , change white filter every 7 days , water change once every 4-5 days , water tests every 2-3 days , we have the gravel hoover thing too which we do twice weekly .

Don't hoover the gravel till the tank has cycled that means when ammonia is 0 and nitrite is 0, you are getting rid of to much of the benficial bacteria out of the gravel, just do some dialy water changes not big ones small ones or it will take for ever to cycle the tank.
to be honest the betta is not good and i doubt he will make it, he needs a bacterial med.

ok will stop hoovering the gravel .and will do daily 10% water changes

our fighting fish died last night :(

thanks for your help again wilder , will keep you posted

Sorry bless him, R.I.P.
