Hi Everyone
I am a newbie here but really really need some help and advice.

I have a 375ltr tropical community tank, for a few weeks now I have been losing the odd fish here and there and had noticed that I was getting fish with milky looking skin (scales) and that some of them were starting to look thin and alltogether unwell.

I guessed this was being caused by an immune breakdown to parasites so I went and got some treatment
upon reading the instructions I noticed it was not safe for invertebrates and I have some shrimp and a crab in my tank so I returned the product.

The shop gave me a new product PARAZORYNE it is supposed to be safe in all respects.

I am now on day 3 of a 10 day course of treatment with this product, and today my fish have been getting more and more distressed, they are "flicking" constantly even the fish that were not doing this before have now started and they are all looking lethargic and un-interested, they are also gasping for air, partcularly affected are my fire eels.

I have not taken the carbon out of the filters as it is "almost" impossible to get to in my tank, I know I should have taken it out, but what is the effect of not doing so? and has anyone got any ideas, advice or suggestions ???

Please Please Help

Was the tank cycled when you add the fish and how many did you add and which type, as milky skin and flicking can be due to poor water quality.
Is it possible to post stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph.
Parasites can cause fish to go thin especially velvet, get you some info on milky skin. Do an immediate water change and turn aeration up in the tank.

Look under milky skin.

Just noticed the carbon bit, you need to remove it as it will just remove the med as that what it meant to do.

Need water stats as i'm not convinced yet that it could be a parasite without them water readings.

Hi Thanks for your reply

I regularly check my water levels and this is a very well established tank (now over 2yrs old)
I did recently have some problems of nitrate levels rising so I did an 80% water change using RO water on Monday just gone. I have noticed some white spot on a couple of the fish but I think the main problem may be gill fluke. I will check my water again tomorrow and post the readings but they were all fine on Tuesday when I last checked them. I will get the carbon removed tomorrow. I have added some more air for tonight but will get another stone tomorrow, the temperature has been increased as per the instructions of the meds.

Sorry thought you meant the tank was only a couple pf weeks old. If the spots look like grains of salt it whitespot.

I don't know how helpful this is (you may have already tried this) but you should do partial water changes everyday, make sure your filter and bubbler are still working.
I don't know what the effect of not taking the carbon out is but you should try the impossible and do it anyway.
Also, if you added anything to your tank recently it could be something that was on it.
Well, good luck to ya. :good:
