I know this is in the wrong section but there are only a few guests in the coldfish section.

My two goldfish have developed bright red ulcered lines along their backs. Can anyone give me any advise???

My fish is fine, its just these two, they are also hanging near the surface, but both are still eating

Please help
Sarah

Size of tank in gallons or litres.
How many fish and which type.
Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

It dosn't sound like ulcers, as ulcers are round, pink or red, with a circling of dead white tissue around the edges.
Its sounds like septicemia if there red streaking or there backs.
Is the line tiny red pin prick marks that go in a line.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.

There are 3 goldfish in my pond, it is a quite large pond maybe 20m diameter.
I cant really get a good look as they disappear pretty quick but its like a strek down their back, its bright red.
They dont seem irritated by it, but theyre just hanging in the water sort of verticalish

Ammonia 1, Nitrites 0, Nitrates 170
pH 8.0

Please give any suggestions
Thanks
Sarah

I would do a water change.
Do you run a filter for the pond.
You will need to add a bacterial med to the pond.
Red streaking can be bad water quality to septicemia.
You do to improve water condtions in the pond.

I run a titan 3000 by hozelock, i thought this was doing the job but obv. not.
I will try a water change, and what bacterial supplement would you recommend?
Thanks for all your help!
Sarah

I would also wait for replys in the coldwater sectiion as I don't know much about ponds and filters.
I will look a pond med up for you.
Are the fish gasping at the surface of the pond or laboured breathing.

Son just arrived from uni sorry. It's just a quick visit.
Ask the lfs for an bacterial med for a pond.
