I bought a goby last night and I have just received a call from my mum at work that the crabs have teared him to pieces and killed him :-(

Is this normal? I have never heard of this before!!!

wot type was it? if the crabs were eating them, im assuming they are hermits, it would be becuase of death of the fish as they are scavengers remember not predators.

He was the butterfly type.

Real cute little thing, woke up this morning and he was at one side of the tank and then I got a call to say he was getting attacked :hyper:

Im gutted, my water stats seem pretty good though!

Think I might do a few water changes b4 I stock up

tbh think u just wanna make sure your acclimations are right, like test the salt in the bag to your tank and ph just to make it perfect thats makes a happy fish :)

Althought crabs are oppertunistic killers It would be my opinion that the Goby died & was then eaten by the crabs rather than they killed it (I know it isnt unheard of but ...)

What are your tank parameters & how long did you acclimise?

I, too, would highly doubt that the crab kiled him, as I have a very large hermit crab (5.5'') that coexists peacefully with my Gobies and Blennies.
