Urgent Help Please

hi everyone im exetremely worried now about my fishes health i have high water levels in my tanks which dont seem to be affecting my fish at the mo but probably will do lter on. my ph is 7.6 highrange ph is 7.8-8.0 ammonia is 2.0 nitrite is 5.0-2.0 nitrate is 10-20 myh fish have been showing sig of rubbing and flicking againt the filter and rocks which i heard that was i aign of whitespot so i have been treating that for a while now and they seem to be getting better i was wondering if i should start again with my tank and see what happens any suggestions would be grateful thank you :

Hi,

You are correct to be worried. That amount of ammonia is lethal to fish, especially with a high pH such as yours.

Do a 75% water change straight away, and then another 50% in around 4 hours time. Be sure to dechlorinate the fresh water.

Test again. You really want to keep ammonia and nitrite below 0.25 to give your fish any chance of survival.

That is a very high ammonia level and will effect them very soon.

Do a water change immediately. I believe the best way to do it is 50-75% now, and then another 50-75% every couple hours until the ammonia level is under .25.

You'll also need to test for nitrites, as they are also quite dangerous, but let's get the ammonia under control first! What size is your tank? How many fish? How long set up?

It would be good to know how long your tank has been set up.

You may not have cycled your filter, and this could be causing your problem.

Do you know about 'cycling'? If not, try reading this thread. It might help you out somewhat.

my tank is 60 litres i have 2 albino plecos 2 golden apple snail 2 zebra snails 2 tiger barbs and 2 moss barbs thanks weveryone for the information i really appresciate it i will let u know how i get on tanks again
