 URGENT HELP NEEDED !!!!!!!!

I have tested the water, and the results of the tests are :

Nitrate (NO3) = 100 mg/litre (or more, it looks more than shown on the tests scale)

Nitrite (N2) = 0.3 mg/litre

PH = 8.0

i usually do a water change of abt 10% every 10 days

i neva ova feed, as i have learnt with time. i am not going to feed them 2nite or 2mora, and am going to take the food block out.

i had been away 4 the weekend, but given the fish a food block. and had my parents keep an eye on the fish.

i get back,

* 1 of my new guppys is dead, (body missing things such as eyes, and tail, and showing signs of dropsy - all fins stuck out on end)

* my blue female betta has the unhappy tell tell horizantol lines and a very fat tummy

* my red female betta has the same tell tell lines, no fat tummy, but has wot looks like either mouth rot, or mouth flakes (think thats how u spell it) and very sulky, hiding behind the filter

* my kissing gourami is showing signs of a swimbladder problem, and a few spekles of white on his tail and lower body

* my paradise male is showing similar "spots/spekles" on his tail

i have another of the new female guppys who looks half dead, floating almost at the top of the tank, cnt be sure, but looks like dropsy in that her fins are all on end, but no fat tummy.

i also am sh*tting bricks at the fact that i now have the gouramis and the paradise gourami/fish in the small hospital tank and 2 pregnant guppy girls (my orginals) due to drop ne day now in the main tank. i have breeding nets, but i wud prefer not to stress them out, and even if i put them in the nets, if there is sumthing in the water, they will prob get it soon, and the babies wont stand a chance.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

I HAVE NEVA HAD THIS MANY PROBLEMS IN ONE GO!!!

i am planning to do a 20% water change first thing in the morning, then add melafix and mayb sum anti internal bacteria. this will prob only be in the main tank, and mayb melafix and a swim bladder treatment to the hospital tank.

i am lucky in a way i guess that i now keep a box of meds 4 the fish.

in the box i have, melafix, anti internal bacteria, Myxazin, and eSHa 2000 - fungus, finrot and bacteria treatment.

which is the best 4 the main tank ?

if nothin i already has is suitable, wot is ? i will go to any extreme to get these fish better!!!!

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

the guppy that i sed was almost floating is now dead. :rip:

i have also just found 3 live guppy fry!!!

please please help me. i cant go to sleep, cus im almost convinced that i will wake up to a tank of half dead half alive fish!

PLEASE IM BEGGING U!!

If you want to go drastic. I'ld nearly say to find the nearest lake or stream that you trust to be clean and get some new water. (yes, their is a chance of picking up parasites and such, but from your problems you are having it can't hurt).

I would go with the bacterial, fungal antibiotics. I would choose something stronger than melafix. That is more like a preventative.

Make sure the new water is warmed close to your temperature. Getting totally new and automatically cycled water eliminates current bacteria in the water and gives you a chance to treat infection on the fish.

Use a strong anti fungal or bacterial or both if it says you can mix the two. You would have to make the call on which one. You probably have both but bloat and mouth problems would probably need fungal. Hopefully others will respond soon.

Good luck

It sounds to me like your fish were first hit with bloat. The problem with weekend feeders is that the fish can eat all day which is essentially overfeeding, which would explain the big tummies. They probably also picked at the guppy that you found with missing parts. I would stop feeding them for at least three days. Fish can go many days without food.

It also sounds like after they were hit with the bloat that Ick came along and has now started to attack the fish that already aren't feeling well. I would do at least a 50% water change and begin to raise the temp of the tank gradually until it reaches 81-82 degrees. Ick is very sensative to higher temperatures and this will kill the parasite off.

I would also begin to treat the tank with an ick medication. I don't know what medications are available to you there, but I've had great results with Super Ick Cure Capsules by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals and Jungle Ick Clear Tank Buddies tabs.

I honestly don't know if it would be safe to mix an ick treatment with a fungal/bacteria treatment. I always worry about overmedicating. Unless I'm misinterpreting what the white speckles are, I'd treat for Ick first while also refraining from feeding for a few days.

I have heard of this problem before and it is due to your food block that you gave them while you was gone. Those things arent worth a d*mn if you know what I mean. The best thing you can probally do is a water change about 30 percent and dont feed them for a few days plus get some good parasite medicine. I dont know what you can buy where you are at. Jungle makes a good parasite medicine You can buy it at walmarts where I live at. I would try that first and see what happens in the next day or so. Then I would try some Maracyn. It is real good to. I hate those food blocks that is all they are fit for I have heard several stories a lot like your after people uses those things. I hope you can get your fish back to where they was before you put that thing in the tank. I wish you the best of luck. Please let me know how they are doing afteryou change your water.

A good ick medication and preventative is "Coppersafe". Do as directed and the ick will be gone and never return. Use it as a monthly addition to your tank but only do half of what it says once a month. However if you have snails don't use it, it will kill snails.
To get rid of the fungal and bacterial infections there are many to choose from, it depends on how much money you want to spend and if you mind your water turning bright yellow for four days or not.
I have had great luck with a product called "Binox". It is a wide spectrum antibiotic and clears infections fast. You do a 25% water change before treating and add the recommended dosage. It works great. It WILL turn your water bright yellow for two to four days. Turn off your carbon filtration during this period or at least remove the carbon media or bag.
I usually leave the filter running even empty because it still makes the water ripple which creates oxygen, plus I have a sponge on my inlet tube which holds vital bio material that help keep the water healthy.
One more thing, antibiotic treatments may be harmful to live plants as some are sensative. The Coppersafe and Binox can be used in conjuntion with each other without harmful affects. Once your problems are solved, adding 1 teaspoon of salt per 10 gallons of water will help your fish with their protective slime coat and helps promote healthy gills. Don't add it too often as salt doesn't just go away in a tank, it only comes out with water changes.

Sorry about the fish loss...

I agree with the bloat. Normally the fish can survive without being fed for a day or 2. Actually, even a few more days.

DO NOT use water from a lake or stream. If the lake or stream is near the city, then there's a possibility of toxins from acid rain, factories, etc.

What have you done so far?

UPDATE!!!
i woke up this morning very early, as i cudnt sleep for worrying that i wud wake up to an emty tank. only to find that my fav betta (the red with blue/red fins) had died :rip: i have kept her body, and intend to take her to the lfs and ask if they think it was ick or sumthing else. ive now had 3 fish die in the community tank in a space of abt 36 hours.

i have taken the food block out, but im unsure of wot to do abt my fry.

i only found them after i posted the last message i think it was. they can only be a day old if that. i presume if i dnt feed them, they will die ?

i am going to get to the aquatic shop as soon as it opens this morning, do a water change, and add the med. (im still not 100% sure abt which 1 2 use, so will ask my lfs)

im asking 4 advice abt the fry, sud i put the gourami back in the community tank and then move the fry to the small hospital tank ? then treat the community tank ?

i dnt mind the water changing colour as long as it saves my fish.

i have also had an idea, the tank that my fish wud have been moving into in a few weeks wen i had shuffled the tanks has 6 danios (who im told are spiteful so have neva been given the chance to harm my other fish). i am going to go and do the tests on the tank in a minute.

Now providing that this tank has safe water, sud i risk moving all of my fish (from my tank and the hospital tank) into this tank ? if i do this i think i will start again in there, and just empty the 24" tank. then move them wen they have recovered.

**tested the tank with the danios (in other words soon to be empty tank)**

PH = 8.5

Nitrite (NO2) = 0.3 mg/litre (it says these are ok)

Nitrate (NO3) = 12.5 mg/litre (it says these are ok)

does this sound ok ?

PLEASE HELP ME I CANT COPE WITH NEMORE DEATHS!
