Hello

One swordtails has died. Last night she was gasping at the surface of the water and was sat on a leaf. She made no effort to move, not even when I opened the tank lid.

She has jagged fins.

She seems to have a whitish belly. Could this be because she is dead?

I can’t see any other symptoms.

I lost a platy a week or so ago, which also had jagged fins. The platy also had cloudy eyes.

Every other fish in the tanks seems OK. Apart from one of my platys doing a weird kind of dance. Moving backwards and forwards.

I thought it could be fin rot, but is not fin rot a secondly infection?

Is fin rot contagious?

Could it be a bacterial infection?

Can anyone help?

Just noticed one of my platy babies has jagged fins too. it looks weak?

Can i put aquarium salt in if i have cory??
Thanks

fluval deep 800.
125l / 27 g
fluval 3 filter
about 40 fish may be less,

swordtail, 4 danio, 2 cory, 1 cae, 4 cardinal tetra, platys,

do regular water changes 30 % every week
tests look perfect.

If you have 40 fish in a 27gal youre well overstocked, an immediate water change, and take a sample of your water to the lfs to test, and tell them to write the readings down for you, i would try and rehome some of the fish as it very overstocked.

i done the tests my self and they look perfect. whats lfs?

Local fish store or shop, can we take a look at your stats, overstocked tanks cause stress and desease.

local fish shop/store

Can you give us the readings you have?

I agree about overstocking, which filter are you using and how do you clean it?

Add extra air if you can and do gravel vacs two or three times a week at 30%

nitrate = 20 ppm
nitrite = 0.25 ppm
ph = 7.6
ammonia = 0 ppm

how many fish am i overstocked? apart from three pltys all the rest of the platys are babies
most apart from two of the swordtails are babies.
filter is fluval 3 plus. clean the sponges in aquarium water. clean the propeller and the head of the filter in hot water.

can i do water change while the baby platy is weak.

will it be safe for me to give people fish as my tank has diease?

When a fish does that back and forth thing its usually due to something wrong with the water. You are registering nitrites which should be at 0. How long has the tank been running for? It may be a mini cycle, end of cycle or your filter cant cope.
Can you take the cory out as you can add aquilibrium salt to help with the shimmying.

The tail looks bitten rather than rotten.
For your size tank and filtration you should have maybe 15 platies.
