I have two juwel cichlids.
One male one female.
There showing all the signs of mating.
The male as dug a bigggg hole.
They have both gone deep red.
But what i dont understand is when they swim around she somtimes bounces herself off the sand??
Like just dives on it sideways and then carrys on swimming.
Then he quickly follows.
And somtimes he does the same.
And she does it quite a lot in the hole they digged.
Anyone got any advice?
All my readings are good:
Ammonia: 0ppm
Nitrite: 0ppm
pH: 7.4-7.6
Nitrate: 30

sounds like 'flicking' which can be a sign of whitespot, what are your water stats?

i don't know if it is a part of their mating ritual.

My readings are above.
They have stopped it now its just when they start swimming together they start.
I can not see any signs of whitespot apart from ovbiously flicking as you stated.
I will do a large w/c today and see what happens.
Im not sure if she is trying to impress because they seem to do it in the same place.
I will keep you updated.
