Hi all, i have 2 salvinis and 2 firemouths. Theres a big male firemouth and he used to be the boss of the tank but then i got a new big fish but it completley bullied the firemouth! So the new fish was removed. Then came along the salvinis which were smaller then him. The firemouth stopped eating and has got white stuff around his gill (only 1 gill). The other smaller firemouth has now taken over the tank but now it has got much worse he has gone in the plants and is breathing faster than usual! Hes at the top of the tank in the corner with the plants and keeps facing down! I have just done a water change. Whats wrong? :-( I'm going to my lfs tommorow to ask if theres medication! Has any-one got any ideas what it is or what i can do? :(

Stress can cause illness in fish, thw white on the gill is it fluffy, also water stats would be good in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

A white mucas then, any flicking and rubbing, or laboured breathing, is it possible to look behind the gill for parasites.

Need stats a poor water can cause gill desease.

Take a look under gill rot, does it look like the gills are rotting away.

No everything is fine even the stats, all the other fish have been treated in the same way (except for some bullying)!

Sadly if he stopped eating not good, can you issolate him, you havent answered the question if the fish is flicking it gill or body on things in the tank, and if he's laboured breathing, its hard to say what it is if you don't answer the questions.

I know this post if very old but, I am experiencing the same with my fire mouths. All are less than a year old and have started to die. Did anyone ever figure out a solution to this problem or has anyone narrowed down what this problem is? To answer a few of the questions above, no the fish are not flicking at it, I do not think it is gill rot, based on the info at the link, and I have just done a water change. The water is actually VERY clean... Please help!

Darn, I thought Wilder was back!

You need to give us more info. Please see the posting instructions at the top of the tank and give us the full run down. A picture would also be great to help you out.
