i just got my pair of discus, after slowly releasing them they did not swim around mutch and they are in a corner, is this normal? and they are also breathering very heavy....is this all normal?

Possibly... They can take a while to settle some times.

Did you match your water stats to your supplier first?

Are they are a breeding pair? If not you'll need to add more Discus as they must be kept in groups. If they are a breeding pair and these are your first Discus then your brave. :D

Good. So what's the tank setup like? Size of tank and discus, decor, substrate, tankmates, filtration etc?

If your sure the water parameters are ok and the tank is fully cycled then I'd leave the lights off for a day and just keep an eye on them. If the heavy breathing continues after a few hours or they hang at the surface then add aditional aeration.

cheers yeah my water seems fine. my tank setup is a 4 foot 160 liter, i have cobalt blue discus, no substrate no decor, no tank mates and for filteration i use 2 large sponge filters.

I guess the sponge filters have been cycled on another tank?

How big are the Discus? If they are small they may be spooked there's nothing else in the tank. Had they been kept in a bare tank at the dealer?

Hopefully its just the stress from the move. Have they shown any improvement?

sounds pretty normal however keep an eye on things. if they dont start to settle there could be other underlying causes.

You shure it's a 160l 4fter? If so, the other dimentions have to be too small for even just a pair of discus I'd have thought... Either not enough front to back space or top to bottom space.... Could you post the other dimentions please?

As for corner cowering and gasping/increased breathing rate, as others have said, it's normal for times of stress, such as being moved to a new home. The breathing should return to normal within hours and the fish should start to move out within a couple of days.

All the best

okies, its a 4by18by18

Thats 255l then, not 160 ;) That is a very good size for a pair.

How are they doing? Looking happier yet?
