hi for the past few days been doing water changes as i had high amonia its took some doing but today i have it down to (1.0)
from 2.0 i think the water changes have been stressfull for my pair of angels and caused mouth rot i noticed it on my female about a hour ago just wondering what to do.when we got the pair on saturday i wasnt happy about the male as his moust it perminanyly in the sucking position (open) im thinking maybe he could have it.from geting him and bringin down the amonia his mouth has slightley inproved not being as open as it was .ne ideas as i still have water changes to do abd they also need treating what do i do as i will be taking the water out that i will be treating

you need to do several water changes to get the ammonia level down to an acceptable level (below 0.25), doing lots of water changes is going to be less stressfull and less harmfull than them being poisoned by the ammonia level of 1 which is way too high.

has the tank been cycled ?

No, I don't think it has, correct? Was it you who had the other thread on this problem?

Well, you need to do tons of water changes for a while. Keep testing ammonia and nitrites. If you have other, mature media from a different fish tank then I would add that once you get the ammonia lower. I can't see why water changes would stress the fish? Is the temperature fluctuating greatly during water changes? Do you add anything for Ph?? You are using de-chlorinator right?

You can try some Melafix and Pimafix for treatment of the mouth fungus.

hi update on my situation.i have been doing th water changes i would say i have emptied the tank fo water and replaced over a good few days ,i have given up with the amonia thing i reli dont know what to do ,i emptied my 60l fry tank and put the angles in there they are doing gr8,this is only temparary untill i sort my amonia prob out .the only problem i have it the water ph in my area if reading at 7.2 am i to worrie about this, obviousley i cant at the minute as im treating for mouth rot i was advised to use king british finrot and fungus as i am currently using that.

I am sorry, but if you type out full sentences, it will help greatly! :good: It can be very hard to understand short form typing...

From what I understand, you just emptied the 60l fry tank and put them in that? Was this cycled??? Ammonia is still going to build up in the fry tank unless it has been cycled. If it has, then why not just switch over filter media?

All you need to do to get rid of ammonia is do a 25-50 percent water change daily till the tank is cycled (4-6 weeks, correct?) you can add Ammo-Lock by API, this will turn Ammonia into Ammonium, which is a less toxic forum of the substance. I believe they also have "ammonia removing" filter media. This will be the only way to get rid of the ammonia, so start at it!

As for Ph, 7.2 is fine. Don't go changing it, it will only make things more complicated.
