We've had a thermometer for around three weeks. We noticed little balls at the front bottom of the tank in the gravel, just a few and we thought they were some sort of eggs but this morning I noticed with horror that our thermometer was leaking them, just wondered what they are, they are little brown balls at the bottom of the thermometer below the red bit x

Take it out of the tank remove the balls, water change, fresh filter floss, runs some new black carbon just in case.

Thanks guys, what a brilliant idea, they are coming right out with the magnet. If we don't get them all do you think it will harm the tank. We don't really want to gravel vac yet as our tank has only just cycled so we don't want to lose the good bacteria out the gravel x

I've used various steel objects in the tank short term over the years with no ill effect. The small amount of ozidizing steel from a few stray balls shouldn't hurt anything as long as you keep up with regular water changes.

Thanks so much that's a weight off my mind. I'll be sure to check any future thermometers x
