So at my LFS I was sold a "black lancer" and was told the white line in lancers are geographical as this one has white dots. Extreemly happy to find a rare find as the black lancer, I jumped at it. Turns out he's an even more elusive fish it seems....

then I notice the guy starting to swim upside down while I have him in his bag to get at temperature with the tank. So, right now my only inhabitant of my 125 is my senegal, and in my 38 is a syno flaventatus and a VT angel. Looking at their profile, they are good with not so great water conditions, and I think he'd murder my sno flav so for now he has to go in my sy

Question 1: Will this be too much for a senegal bichir about his own length in size?
Question 2: Will he be compatible with other strong cats like Syno. Angelicus, a nice big pleco like a tiger or blue phantom?

Doesn't sound like a black lancer (Bagrichthys macracanthus) - they are black with a silver line, and I don't believe there are regional variants. As it's swimming upside down - could it be Mystus leucophasis, also known as the Asian upside Down Catfish?
Eithwe way, should be OK with the fish you have suggested, but as always, no guarantees.
