Upgrading To A Bigger Tank

I bought a small 10gal arcadia tank to start out with that's all gone fine its stocked and planted and all going perfect but now im addicted and i want a bigger tank i want to upgrade to a 3 footish tank i like the juwel 125 litre tanks with the stand.

My question is how easy is it to swap everything over? can i buy a filter big enough for the 125 litre and put it in the 10g tank for a while to cycle it? or could i put everything in the new tank inc the new and old filter? the filter i have now is a eheim 2008 its good for up to 60litres the filter i want is the ehiem 2010 which is good for up to 160litres or would you recommend going for the 2012 which is good for 200litres? as its only a few quid more.

ive heard its always better to over filtrate, i'd go for the 2012 if money permits.

Its only £5 more so i will go for the bigger one then.

yes getting the bigger filter and running it in the 160 alongside the smalle one will eventually cycle it, and while thats going you can stock up the filter limit of the smaller one.

what i would do is most prob use the filter for up to 160 as your tank wont have 125 litres in it as by the time u add substrate and decor you displace the water 1kg displaces about 1 litre. but then it depends what u want to stock it with?

i would put the media from your current filter into the new with all the tank water and substate (if your chaging substate u could bury this or put in one area for now) then i would fill rest of tank with tap water dechroninated and add your current fish.

leave this for couple week to get a constant temperate and ensure no fish die, test water and if all is good then put the desired ffish into the tank.
