Well after taking some advice I’ve re done all my java moss bits. After killing one fish and nearly doing in my albino plec I decided before any other fish get stuck I’ll remove the hair nets I used.

The process went like this....

Bugger, I’ve just realised that the pics I took of stripping down the old parts were taking with no memory card in the camera!! Gotta love DSLR's!!!

Anyway, once I had reclaimed all the moss I started on using the new stuff I got from ebay. This has arrived on metal cards so I needed to remove that first, then I just transferred it onto some plastic mesh I got from my local hardware shop.

So this is what is started with

The moss all ready for use

Mesh cut to size

Then I just stick it one the mesh

Nearly done

Then I tied some string so I could secure it down

Wrap the string tightly round

Then stick it back in the tank, it’s now I find out the plastic floats!!! Nothing a few stones can't fix!

Now I’ve got this bit to fill

Same as before

Keep it tight!

Space filled

Then I changed a bit of slate I that only had a thin layer of moss on it

To this

And finally a little covering for a plant pot

Thanks

clears it up a bit i understand what you mean now, the moss would grow on any surface anyway, you might need to test the metal to see if it is ok and that it won't affect water quality, whether the vinegar trick will work to see if it will raise ph etc... i don't know.

You have metal in filters and pumps and that so it depends on what metal it is, if it is steel it will be ok. You need a metal expert!

As I said in the other thread, I'd leave it and see how it grows, you can always thicken it out next time, let the poor stuff have a chance to grow ;)

Thanks again mate. Just so i know were on the same track here.

The previous thread i used moss from Maidenhead aquatics and this thread is about some i got from ebay. I was going to leave the MA moss but if i have to remove the moss from the metal that i got from ebay i'm running out of places to put it!!!

So i thought if i have to remove ebay moss i may as well redo the MA moss!!!

Crystal clear!!!

Crystal clear!!!
Much and fully understandable :)

You could always get some new stones/wood to put the new stuff on... cheese and biscuit syndrome do we think... ;)

I gave in.....

Just been up the shop and got a plastic lattice effect thing. I think its primary purpose it for washed dishes to dry on but it is soon to be the holder for my moss. I will take some piccies and post for you all the laugh look at!!!
