This morning one of my guppies was dead. I noticed yesterday that his feces looked pale, but other than that he was doing fine. All water levels are fine (ammonia 0, nitrates 0, nitrites 0, ph 7)

Now I'm panicking over the remaining fish. I can't decide if one of the guppies is spiraling/flashing or just excited because he associates me looking in the tank with food. Two of the guppies MAY have red spots in their fins, but it is difficult to tell because they are red fish. The rasboras, cory cats, and gouramis all look fine. All of the fish ate well tonight.

I'm debating treating the entire tank with Marcyn just to hopefully get ahead of a possible outbreak. The last time I had a fish death it was due to septicemia and half my tank died off- hence why I'm nervous. I haven't lost a fish in eight months or longer though. The fish who died was the newest to the tank, but I've had him for three-four months.

Would you treat the entire tank after one fish death- even if you weren't sure why that fish died?

it's best not to treat the tank unless you know what is causing the issues. Blindly throwing medicine into the tank will cause more trouble than its worth.

If you are worried a water change is always the best medicine. It will get rid of some of the water problems if there are any and it makes fish feel good. That fish may have just died. I had a cory that died out of nowhere too but all my other fish were fine and are still alive today.

Okay, there is definitely something going on. I have four guppies remaining. One is clearly circling. One is very swollen and it looks like dropsy. Another has a clear red spot on his fin.

It's looking more and more like ANOTHER outbreak of septicemia. This has happened to me three times and ONLY within the guppies. I'm going to start treatment with Marcyn Two and antibiotic food, which did help last time. I wouldn't be surprised if I lose all four though...and no matter what, I'm not getting any more guppies. I never have issues like this with my rasboras and cory cats. Only the guppies. And I can't find anything I'm doing wrong- the tank is not overstocked, the water checks out perfect every time...

I'm heartsick and kind of angry that I have to go through this again.

Sadly, a lot of guppy strains are pretty weak and fairly unresilient . Especially ones bought from chain pet stores within the last year or so. Not sure when you got yours but it's always disappointing and frustrating when something like this happens!

Yep...these particular ones are from a chain store. I started off saving a bunch from my cousin, and I'm sure she got them from a chain store. Since then I've gotten more from the local chain as the others died off(which has very nice tanks...but clearly the supplier is breeding more for color than health)

I'm just so sad...you do get attached to them and I hate to watch them become ill. I will euthanize if I have to, but right now they're still eating and don't seem to be suffering.

I hear the endlers are supposed to be hardier since they aren't as inbred?

IME Endlers have been the hardiest fish I've owned (don't have them anymore, my little brother started his own tank about a year ago and he's got them, all still alive!)

Last night One of my neons started acting up, within an hour he started swimming side-ways, erratically and then when the red stripe on his side disappeared I knew that was going to be the end... I know Neon Tetra Disease is pretty much incurable but I still felt useless, just watching him struggle. I'm surprised it came on so quickly! He was fine yesterday morning when I fed them! :(

I've just got to keep a close eye on the other tetras now I think. I'm sure it's a pretty contagious affliction and I don't want to have to put another fish down :(
