For those of you who were interested, I just wanted to pop in and give you an update on the two bettas from Petco I posted about a while back who were fought almost to the death in the store, apparently by some store patrons. As I mentioned, the employees split the fish up, but made no move to treat their wounds, and when I confronted the manager about the problem of people fighting bettas in the store, he was very indifferent and admitted it happened pretty often.
Anyways, I called corporate and hopefully the store got in some trouble for it, though the bettas are still on the same rack, easy-acess push cart, and cleaning station where anyone can reach them, and I still see no supervision in the store. ::sighs::
However, the bettas are doing GREAT! I've named them Nanahara and Noriko after the only two surviving characters in the movie "Battle Royale." For those who haven't seen it, its a pretty twisted Japanese movie based on a Manga about a bunch of Japanese school children forced to fight to the death as part of some horrible competition. I thought it was apt for the two boys, since they survived their own little "battle royale" in the store.
Both boys have healed from most of the body damage, the fin progress is coming slower. I'm sad to say they both had to deal with protozoal parasites in addition to wounds; it took two rounds of meds to get rid of the Ich they both popped up with shortly after coming home. I also did a round of AP's General Cure to get any other nasties they might have.
I'm hoping to have pictures soon; they're looking mighty fine and enjoying their 2.5g hospital tanks, though I hope to move them into their own 5g's when they're 100% better.
Thanks, everyone who expressed interest in them! ((And please, lets not have this thread go like the other one did  ))

:good: Nice job rescuing them. It sickens me to think that people can be so cruel. Please do post up their pics! I would love to see them!

I was actually in an lf's this weekend eyeing up some young female DT's and heard this chap say to his missus "how do you fancy seeing a betta fight ?" I turned round and said that I certainly didn't want to see it happen as they would fight to the death or near death and I thought he was a fool.

You should have seen his face and his missus looked as though she was on my side as well, needless to say he said sorry to me and walked off with his wife and baby in tow straight away :D

The problem is with the lf's if they only kept the betta's in secure tanks with lids and no easy access to the public then this wouldn't happen, as it is the poor males are shoddily treated and have a bare 1 gallon square tank, no lid and can see each other constantly, so if a member of the public doesn't scoop them into the other containers then boys can jump easily into each others tanks
