i have a blue ram with pop eye, i dont have the option of a quarantine tank so i have medicated the whole tank but she just sits on the bottom looking very poorly...best i can do is put her in a breeding net in the main tank. would this be advisable or should i leave her where she is?

Putting her in a breeding net will only stress her more. It won't really accomplish anything else.

keeping her in a breeding trap will only stress her out and possible worsen the problem as she may further damage the eye in a confined space. there are so many causes of pop eye it is hard if not impossible to track down the cause but if it was me i would treat her with epsom salts only because in my own experiance this has worked for me. anti biotics or known to work as well but like any treatment with popeye, nothing is certain to work especially because you dont know the cause. i would treat with salt as it covers more causes if you no what i mean. but still you might lose the fish or she might lose the eye or she may well just recover. has the eye clouded over yet?

no its is still clear but it is swollen and red, she is not interested in food. i have added anti bacterial treatment. the water stats are good.. ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 40 and the ph is 7.6. I spoke to my local fish guy and he has loads of cichlids so the same water hardness.. might be stress that has caused it.

do you think he could of damaged it. why do you think it is stress. i dont really think there is one definite answer but i would go for salt. what ever you chose you need to stick with it as it could take some time to show any sign of recover. also if it doe's recover it might come back in a few months time which at least would rule some possible causes out
