Unlucky Lfs Or Bad Lfs?

One of the LFS I used previously have stocked some zebra loaches at least 2 weeks ago. They were much cheaper than what I've paid (£11 for 3, I paid £5 each for mine). Today I went back to look at their stock and it's a very sorry sight. They have around 10-15 loaches in their tank and all but one is lying on their side, breathing slowly. The last man standing is "nipping" his mates, and the mate would "wake up", trying very hard to stay upright and swim a bit, then lie down again. This is not normal behaviour (at least mine don't do that at all). All their other fishes seemed fine, although previously I have seen dead fishes in their tank. I bought my 6 3-lined corys from them 6 months ago and they are still alive. I am hoping they are just a very bad batch, rather than them stocking poor quality specimens/diseased tank...

Put your mind at rest and ask for a sample of their water so you can test it yourself.
Any LFS that keeps on top of water changes ect shouldn't mind that.

Ask them about it. Most likely when all fish of only one species is affected it was a bad batch. This can happen to any LFS, from any supplier, with any species. It is simply such a stressful trip from farmer, to wholesaler, to LFS to expect no problems ever.

That's a brilliant idea. It's like going to a fish monger and asking to smell their fish.

I've never thought about doing that
