Unfortunately this fish had been badly fin nipped by my headstander and caught a fungal infection which got the best of him this morning. I feel I at least owe it to the poor guy to find out what he was as I was never sure. He was a very active fish until he started getting nipped and was a deep red colour before he got ill.

He was a bit of a mystery as the shop keeper didn't know what he was and sold him to me for a pound! The shop keeper had commented that it may be some kind of barb.

Can anyone identify the fish for me?

I would upload your pictures through photobucket and resize it from there. Pretty simple lol.

Replace it with this one...

I too have no idea, what kind of markings were in red?

And do fish eventually die with finrot type diseases as it gets closer to the body? or can it start to rot away their actual body before they die?

The fish was completely deep red with a few black splodge marking on each side.

The fin rot diesease this guy had seemed to start moving up the body. It may have just been the other fish still picking at him though.

...and by the the way, the dates wrong on that photo, lol, I took it this morning!

Sorry mate, I had a quick flick through my fish books but couldn't seem to find a species to match. What was it's tail like? size + colourations?

He was about 2inches.

Tail was red and pointy, and when he was active he marched up and down the tank in almost military movement, lol.

That's a shame you couldn't remember.

He was not a cherry barb. He was a good inch bigger/longer.
