My roommate has a five gal. with four adult guppies and the lone female gave birth this afternoon. When we noticed the thirteen mini guppies swimming about, we also noticed a bunch of thin, white worms about half an inch to an inch in length floating and crawling in the tank. Any ideas on what they are, how to get rid of them, and if they'll affect the babies (or my roommate when she's cleaning)? To make the situation more difficult, my roommate is moving in about a week. *ack*

Thanks,

Sounds like planaria.. I've read that they can kill fry, but shouldn't harm adult fish.

Overfeeding, and not cleaning the gravel enough will cause them to appear.

When I had them, I did 30% water changes every few days for 2 weeks, and they disappeared. You can also try adding some aquarium salt if you want. I didnt.

Too many fish in too small a tank im afraid. As above, you need to up the water changes and feed less. With those babies the tank is going to go from bad to worse as the water and filter cant cope with the fish. Any chance of an upgrade for the adults?
The female guppy isnt going to do too well with 3 males constantly after her, the ratio should be 3 females to one male.
