Girlfriend has a problem with her tank, an infesation of snails. They are about 2-3mm in diameter and are a flat spiral shape.

Did try getting a picture of them, but camera isn't that good and didn't get any that would be useful in identification.

She dose have a some of trumpet snails in the tank.

Thanks for the help, will try a bit of cucumber/lettece tonight and see if that helps, but any help in identification would be appriciated.

Thanks voo and catxx, most helpful, I must have missed that topic when I searched the forum.

Looks like ramshorn to me - now its how to get rid of them - should be able to find a way to at least control them, now I know what to look for.

Again thanks.

pick them out everytime you see them, check underneath leaves for egg sacks, scrape off, fish will munch them or squish and throw in the bin.

try throwing in a lettuce leaf or algae wafer. Come back in an hour or so and either remove the lettuce and snails or pick out all the snails you see. You could also put the algae wafer in a cup and remove all of it at once. It won't get rid of all of them but it will control them to an extent.

I like pest snails...until they start eating plants. They help you figure out the proper amount to feed. Something many new aquarists have trouble with. If you have too many snails then chances are you are overfeeding. Reduce feedings and you'll reduce the snail population. I recommend one light feeding a day or a slightly heavier feeding every other day. Lot's of people combine the two by feeding once a day, and fasting there fish once a week.
