Fish Crazy
Well, hello.
I have to admit that when I first found this forum (roughly four hours ago), I thought I'd use it as little more than a guide. Then I got sucked into all the wonderful information it has to offer and soon realized that I just can't not sign up.
My name is Lynn Stewart. I live in a small town in Arizona, where I've been all my nineteen years. I'm rather new to the hobby. I used to keep goldfish several years ago and learned how to care for aquariums more or less through trial and error (lots of dead fish on my hands). I was successful in keeping a particular pair of goldfish alive for a good year, until an unfortunate accident involving a malfunctioning heater. That's when I gave up, threw out all my aquarium things (most of which was hand-me-downs from the late 80's), and decided that I wouldn't keep fish anymore.
Until recently.
My sister keeps a large 20 gallon tank full of very interesting fish, like scissortails, one very large pleco, some neon tetras, and a few barbs. She also put in a pair of three-spot gouramis. Inevitably, the male gourami became rather aggressive, and he wound up taking out the entire group of scissortails and had started hounding the female to the point that her fins were almost completely nipped off. That's when my sister decided to get rid of him--and by that I mean flushing him.
Well, I took pity on him, so I scraped up some savings, purchased a new tank, set it up, and took in the rogue gourami, who has been named "House". Now I've caught "fish fever" all over again. I'd forgotten how rewarding it can be.
Needless to say, I've been doing a lot of research on keeping gouramis, and I'm hoping to get him a bigger tank sometime in the near future.
So, to end the lengthy introduction: I'm very glad to have found this place, and I really look forward to getting more into the care of aquariums.
