Unexpected Fry!!

"well that is why it is recommended to have such things as java moss and plants in a livebearer tank...mine start chasing the fry right away too, because they think it is brine shrimp, or some sort of food...but then they ALWAYS realize it isn't food...and by then i'm sure a coupel of fry might have gotten eaten, but the rest instinctively head for the moss and close to plant leaves and, it is my opinion that the other guppies can't see them at ALL when they take this positioning"

Well, my guppies have been hunting through the plants methodically all day. They know that is the place where the action is. As for realising that it isn't food...do you think you could come and have a word with mine? Everybody in my tank thinks it is yummy food, two complete batches have been eaten so far, mainly by the guppies, and I only rescued the 5 this morning by the merest fluke. I think it boils down to different individuals. Aparently some guppies don't eat fry at all. So I've been told.

in my experience it is pretty unlikely for the parents to eat the fry, especially guppies...

thats not right if i dont get the fry out my guppy tank, there isnt much hope for them, and its got some plants in and a castle -_-

I think it all really depends. I have a few females who never eat fry, and a couple girls who think fry = dinner. I think it depends on the temperment of the female. Same with Platies, Mollies, and Swordies. :)
