im wondering if it would be safe to put a unboiled coconut half into my bettas tank,

i know that the water will go a tea colour but i dont mind,
what im wondering is it safe for the coconut half to be introduced into the tank without boiling it..

i've never boiled my coconuts just washed them off with boiling water to make sure no badies on them i just put them in and never had any problems
not even much tanning released from them
i never knew you had to boil them
Been in the tanks for months with no problems

all i know is that can cause a drop in Ph..
which can be harmful to some species of fish but not bettas

We usually just give a good wash in boiling water after we've sanded all the prickly bits off. We've got loads of them in our tanks and never had a problem with them and like Pippoodle said we get hardly any tanin released.

ive gave it a quick boil and wash,
its all ready been sanded down so that its hairless so to speak :good:
thought why risk anything better to be safe :)

you just reminded me i have a coconut in the kitchen drawer to get hubby to cut up been in there for a few months ---- argh my poor brain ----
have not got it out and sat it in hubbys coffee cup so he'll find it when he gets up for work iat 5am and he will either do it then or do it when he comes home - leave it to me and it'll be either in the cooker or the fridge

Lol.....good idea. Just hope he doesn't leave it somewhere unexpected for you too
