i have an Ultra Violet light in my hood... i use it at night as a moon light efect, but what is it actully for lol?

Does this effect fish or plants?

Kev

There shouldnt be ultra violet light in the hood of your tank, the only time UV light is used in fish keeping is in UV sterilisers where the water is pumped through a tube which is blasted with UV light to kill parasites and pathogens in the water, uncovered UV light is dangerous and can lead to blindness if you or the fish are exposed too long.
Are you sure it is an actual UV light and not just a flouresent tube with blue light? There are two varieties of blue lights for aquariums, Blue actinic lighting which is used in marine tanks and blue moon lighting which is used in freshwater tanks for night time viewing.

It culd be a black light which only illuminates the very blue end of the spectrum.

My understanding is that Ultra violet that is off the violet end of visible light (and similar to infra red, is invisible to the naked eye).

well it makes my white top glow like hell B) is that not black lite? im confused :( if its uv and its blinding my fish that sucks and its out. If its Black lite, what does that mean? its been switched off till i find out whats what,

thanks
