One of my bettas has suspected finrot and also possible columnaris. Original thread.
I have run 2 courses of myzaxin but it's still there. It has got neither better nor worse for a few weeks, but today I think I can see little white edges to the scales in certain lights, and over a slightly bigger area than in the original pics.
He's in 5 gall heated and filtered tank, ammonia 0 nitrites 0 nitrates 10-20 pH 7.4ish.
He's n good spirits, flaring and feeding well. Slightly fat, but today is pea day followed by fast day tomorrow.
Is there any other med or anything I can try apart from myxazin? I dose a little melafix once a week while waiting for the fins to grow back.

Salt baths can help.

Uk lfs bought meds are only really good on mild columnaris. if it's a bad strain you need antibiotics.

White edging to scales is also columnaris.
Lowering your temp helps.

There a jbl med.
Get you some info.

COLUMNARIS<br />The hospital tank should be heated to approx. 74 degrees. 76 and above is the ideal breeding temperature for columnaris. Though there is some dispute over lowering the temperature, my experience has been that 72 is too low for the medication to work rapidly, 76+ causes the disease to breed more rapidly than the anti-biotic can kill, and 74 is "just right." Remember to keep this temperature stable!

Thanks wilder. I'm currently ringing round trying to find somewhere that stocks furanol 2 also mentioned in that article as it specifically says it's for columnaris. If not, I can get it online. I wouldn't say it's a bad strain. I had that other betta which died within a day. This has been a few weeks and hasn't progressed or affected his behaviour or appetite. The instructions say it kills filter bacteria but also says it can be used as a bath outside the tank, so I'd prefer that option.

Furanol does wipe the beneifical bacteria out in the filter.

Do you have other tanks that when the med course is up, you can kick start the tank again with a mature sponge.

I only have 4 small tanks but I could maybe take a bit from each. I'm really struggling to get hold of some though. Loks like it will have to be from germany and I hope that's quick enough.

It used to be called furanol, but now its called furanol 2 as they changed the ingredients in the med.
Aqua essentials used to sell it, but it got banned in the uk due to the antibiotics.

Do you have any antibiotics left that a doctor perscribed.

I've ordered some through my local maidenhead. He seemed confident they could get it, so fingers crossed.

Ok. Thanks for the update.
Good Luck.
