hey
in my tank (see sig) i have an internal filter, its a big black juwel one and it looks really ugly!
any ideas on how to cover it, would putting plants right in front of it be ok or would this interfere with the filter working properly?
any ideas?
thanks x x x

Hi I had a juwel tank and inside filter which I didn't like so got my lovely hubby to buy me a bigger tank with no inside 'box' filter. :D A lot of people have succesfully removed their filters, if this isn't possible try having a black background and maybe the filter will 'merge' in more or you can buy nice artifical plants that have a sucker on them to attach to the glass at the top and drape over the filter so stay in place rather than having to bury the base and the plant being blown to one side by the output.

thanks for ideas, i want to get an external filter but im skint at the minute so will have to do with this one!
anymore ideas/comments?
thanks x x

I've thought about making filter boxes out of pottery to hide filters. I'd make a box the size of your filter and cut a ton of tiny holes in it. Then you could put it over your filter...but then you'd have a big piece of pottery in your tank. It's up to you whether that is an improvement or not. You could grow java mass over the surface of the pottery which would help disquise it. I suggest you plant something tall with broad leaves in front of it. That seems to be the easiest way to hide an internal filter. The black background idea sounded good too.

i know whisper makes something that looks kind of like a tree stump that hides the in water filters... i don't know if you wanna check that out. it looks pretty good, almost like a real one.
check out this link tetra-fish.com i believe that's what these things are... they may actually be filters themselves, but u could look into that if u really like the filters on the inside
