I noticed a couple of days ago that one of my female guppies had a patch of white on her side, just behind her left fin. It didn't appear to be bothering her as she was active and eating everything in sight and didn't look like anything nasty at the time so I kept an eye on her but didn't add anything to the water incase it wasn't needed.

When I checked on her this morning this white patch has grown and now has a red streak in it, and 4 scales on her head are lifting and the ones where this white patch are seem to be coming completely off. She also looks bloated. I'm not 100% sure though, as I've not had her long and she may just be pregnant...

Does this sound like dropsy, even though it appears to be in a small patch? If so, is it still likely to be fatal? I don't want to nobble her or anything, but if it's something that isn't going to get better, I'd rather end her suffering. I have her isolated in her tank with a little bit of aquarium salt and some Melafix, and she did have a poke at a few brine shrimp I dropped in for her earlier, but generally she isn't eating and isn't very active.

Has anyone experienced this before? What does it sound like? Curable/not? What should I do? :(

EDIT: She's also gasping, regardless of how frequently I change her water.

Well, thanks for the lack of replies.

Miss Guppy has died. I went up to give her a water change and she was sitting on the bottom of the cup that she was being floated in, not moving.

I gave her a squeeze just out of curiosity and 9 badly deformed fry and a fry in a yellow blob came out of her. I'm assuming it was a bad pregancy or something that killed her, but I guess I'll never really know for sure.

So sorry for your loss, R.I.P.
