I went into PetCo before work yesterday. I always look at the bettas and the mollies. Well, on this day I saw a really pretty VT betta boy, teal/green. One thing, his right eye was HUGE. I don't know for sure, but my guess is it was pop eye. It was about the size of a normal piece of tank gravel. I asked the lady that works there if I could get him for half off or something so that I could take him home and treat him, but that if he didn't make it I wouldn't be out $4. So she said she would have to go check.

She comes back and tells me that they can't sell animals that are sick or injured and that they will treat him....

Why do I have a feeling he got flushed down the toilet last night? :-(

I did that at an aquatic centre. They said they couldnt sell him like that and would treat him. A couple of days later there was no sign of him...he just had ripped fins

Well, I have to work again tomorrow evening so I will go in there before I go to work. And my guess is that that same girl will be there... she's there almost every other time I go in. And if she is I will ask her how he's doing (if I don't see him on the shelves). I'm pretty good at reading people, so hopefully I can tell if she's lying.

I really hope they try and treat him... I know fish can get past pop eye, so there is no reason for them to not treat him (other than they don't care...)

Popeye doesn't kill, its the secondary infections from not treating it that can cause death, Hopefully they do try and treat him!!! Let us know what happens

i refuse to go to Petco anymore after i bought Chris and Goose in the conditions they were in. send a letter to the management in CA (thats what i did) and complain.

Petco's not getting any more of my money
they got a lecture about keeping a betta in with honey gouramis as well... :shifty:

I was checking out Pets At Home the other day and noticed they had two female fighters in - they were both in the same tank and one was chasing the other, then they both took opposite corners of the tank.

I told the girl about it and she said "oh we just sold the others maybe that's why" - she probably didn't take one out.

at petsmart if i buy any sick bettas they give me the medicine for free. and you never know, they could be treating him because majority of petco and petsmarts sick bettas stay in the back and really do get taken care of.

He's still there. But he looks worse than he did last time. The eye that was buldging before, now looks like it exploaded. And his tail is completely thrashed when it was totally intact the first time I saw him.

But he is seperated from the other bettas...so I'm pretty sure they aren't trying to sell him.

The guy that was there didn't know anything about him. He said he had been gone for a week. And the girl I told about him wasn't there. So I have no clue.

I hope they didn't just place him by the sink and leave him there without trying to do anything...

Over here they usually put a notice on the tanks if fish are getting treated. It will be a shame if they just let him wither away.

Ive only ever seen one or two dead bettas and about 5-6 sick bettas in my lfs. They are pretty good. They used to keep there bettas in jars but now the council is not allowing it which in a way is a good thing, but they are now in with fish like tetras and mollies
