Well my tank somehow got velvet. Here we go again. But this time I'm not going to wait until all the fish have it to treat it. This time I'm treating as soon as I notice. Yesterday morning 1 cardinal tetra had 1 spot so I thought nothing of last night I started to have second thoughts because 7-8 had 2 spots now this morning each cardinal has 2-4 spots. None of the other fish have it yet so I caught it early at least. So what meds would you eeccomend for velvet? Hopefully the thing I went through with ich doesn't happen again. :( :-(

It may well be that the whitespot treatment will also do velvet - worth taking a look before you rush off and buy something new.

It will so should I do a 40-50% water change then add that? It's mardel coppersafe. Didn't do much for the ich.

Follow the instructions on the pack to the letter.

I treated whitespot with Protozin by Waterlife, and it worked perfectly. Spot on, I suppose you could say. :hey:

K well I'm starting my w/c. Why couldn't my 25 foot water changer had come today!!!!!!! ??? :/

whats the difference between Velvet and Ich??

Velvet is tinier yellowish spots but ich is larger whitespots. Already got 5 1/2 gallons out but less than halfway there. I wish I had my 25 fter.

Well just finished the taking out portion. Fishies are a little scared in their 15 gallons of water. And a cardinal tetra wanted a ride and a jumper thinks it's a game to dart across the tank and jump 4 inches up to see if they can hit the airstone. They're 2/6. I wonder if that's harmful...

Well the tank is just about full so any suggestions on meds??

I was reading the bottle and it says it's unsafe for plants.
What meds would you guys suggest I use instead? I don't want to do any harm to my plants, but I don't want my fish to die.

Well I'm not getting much help here so I raised the temp to 81* and I'm about to use the coppersafe. I'm going to call petco and see if they have any recommendations.

Ok well I guess it's coppersafe as petco and petsmart only sell the stuff I have and lifeguard at petco but it's $6 for 2 days of a 7+ day treatment. Don't wanna spend $25 on that so I guess ill be waiting it out and hoping for the best with the copper safe.

K well I used the coppersafe but I got a little fright near the last couple teaspoons. I almost ran out. Only 3/4 teaspoon left, but you never know when you may need it. So I used that and the lights are out now. Should I also fast them for a few days or still feed them once a day instead of my usual schedule? I also did the flashlight test to make sure they had it and it's confirmed they do and my gold dust Molly does too. (lol never heard of a gold dust Molly with gold dust disease!) so I've just gotta wait and hope.

Well I guess noone is following this anymore but I'm going to keep it up to date anyways :p
So the lights been off all day, and I've got an airstone running. I'm fasting them at least til tomorrow night. It doesn't seem to be helping but it doesn't look like it's getting worse so that's good.

You could use Super Ick Cure by API, invertarbrate and plant safe :good:
