Hi. I have had two uarus for about six months .They are about 6 inches. They have been fine together until the last couple of days. Now they are biting each other quite badly . Have read that this could be the start of breeding .yet worried that they are going to hurt each other . thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to the forum :)

Uarus are like any other cichlid when they mature they start looking for a mate. If you have 2 males they will fight. If you have a male and female they will wrestle and lip lock and push each other around to see if the other fish is tough enough to be a worthy parent. If one party is not acceptable it will normally get bashed.

If you want a breeding pr of cichlids you should buy 8-10 young fish and grow them up together. When they pr off you move the prs to another tank.

You will have to monitor your fish and if they start doing physical damage then they will need to be separated.

Thanks for the reply. I think they are male and female and have been together for about a year with no problem . I will separate them as the female has had a few bites .
