Does anyone use rainwater in there water changes? After its been raining a lot (all the time at the moment!!) and the water out of the butt is nice and clear, i use up to 50% rain instead of treated tapwater..the fish don't seem to mind, but i haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else in the forums, anyone got any views on this? (the guy in the lfs said it was ok) (he actually lost a sale there, cos i went in to get a large bottle of aqua safe!)

nice one.
i would keep using it if you haven't had any problems with it. i was going to get a water butt but never got around to it. it has been said that the rain picks up a lot of dust and other stuff from the atmosphere like acid rain and that we should run it through a filter with carbon to purify it and only collect the rain after 10 minutes of heavy rain, but if we acted on everything like we are told the fun in fishkeeping would be outweighed by the work. it can be hard work as it is

I've studied Environmental Science and things of this nature so I think your okay using it unless you see problems my only concern would be acid rain. I'm not sure exactly where you live so I'm not sure if Acid Rain is a problem for you but my only concern would be the pH levels but it should be fine since your only using 50%.

Only thing I can think of is that you might have some paracites or larva or something growing in the water or container
