I recently acquired a 25 gallon tank with an under gravel filtration system. I've been cycling it with 7 mollies and a baby pleco for about a week now. I was just wondering what types of plants would do well in this type of system. I have read that UGF setups are not ideal for live plants. I was hoping to have a few live plants, maybe sword plants and moss balls..but would love other live plants to make the tank look colorful and natural. I would probably have a few fake plants also. The light I have is a 20 watt white flourescent. I was also wondering if I should purchase a test kit to check nitrite, nitrate, ammonium..etc levels to make sure im keeping a balanced tank. I'd love any input you can offer, thanks guys.

Does anybody know of any other forums where people know stuff about live plants in freshwater aquariums?

Hi im not too sure about UGF systems as they arne't too common these days but if you are looking at setting up a planted tank then maybe have a look at upgrading to a canister filter.

You defiantly NEED too get a test kit if you are fish in cycling your tank, especially with your stock.
How often are you changing the water at the minute?
If you arnt too sure about cycling have a read of these, they are very helpful.
