I have bought a Bolivian Ram, has been resident in my 235 litre tank now for almost 2 weeks. I am no good at sexing these fish but mine seems to display behaviour that I would associate with males. It is quite a large fish compared to others I have seen, displays quite a lot of colour on its fins and when food is dropped into the tank, it guards a spot in the centre of the tank where there is also a piece of flat rock. Any fish that comes into or around this area will get chased off and attacked. This includes giving my Festivum, which is easily 5 times larger a hard time and sent packing. When not feeding, he is quite docile and explores the tank quietly.

Now, I would like to introduce another Bolivian Ram but I find it difficult in telling the sexes apart, I could quite likely end up with another male. If that is the case, will the other male face certain death or are these fish not as aggressive top their own kind?

Thanks.

It depends on an individua, the dimensions of the tank, the layout of the decor and other stocking. Why don't you just learn how to sex them? I do realise that it is quite difficult for some people, but there are some characteristics which you can look for.
