Alright so I have one of my fry and she has been pregnant for some time now maybe since June. And today I noticed a premature baby in the breeder box. There is only one fry in there and it is dead. :( And after looking some more at the bottom I noticed something that looked like a little yellow egg. But then I looked at the mom and she wasn't in labor?!?!? She wasn't dropping, there was only the egg and the one fry? Why did that happen? No one else could have done that. She's in a box by herself. And I can tell she still is pregnant because you can still see the gravid spot. So what's happening?

how long has she been in the breeder trap for?
If she has been in there a while she will get stressed and abort her babies.
Take her out and let her back into the main tank.
She is probably really stressed

Well, the thing is she is still tiny and if I let her back into the tank she would get stuck to the filter intake. My filter is really strong so then the fry get stuck to the side. She isn't big enough to pull herself away from the strong suction.

So you have a fry thats pregnant, and also the mother of that fry in a breeder box? how old is this pregnant fish?

no, maybe I didn't explain this well enough. I have one pregnant fish in the breeder box. But, she is basically only a fry. Probably about 3 and a half months old. So she is pregnant and I found one little baby fry dead at the bottom. And one egg. What happened? She still has a gravid spot too.

Forget that she has a gravid spot, thats irrelivant..

Whats probably happened is she has aborted due to being stresses (put her in in to early)..

This is probably her first drop ever so she will only have a couple of fry.

Alright but she is only really a fry so why would she be stressed by the breeder if she has lived one her whole life?

If she is still a fry and still living in a breeder, i doubt she has had any at all at her size.

You shouldn't keep a 3.5 month old fish in a breeder box. It's kind of like keeping a betta in a cup, it's really too small for her. Can you reduce the flow of the filter? There's a good topic on clogging up filters in the betta section because a lot of bettas dislike currents. If you can't, float a large tupperware bowl in the tank. That's big enough.

Just realised he put the month in the OP...

Why reduce the flow though? if its 4 months old, it should easy be big enough and strong enough to have a current.

ps, some breeder boxes are big you can them like 8"x6"x6" but regardless, it should be ok in with the others now at that age.

No all my fish aren't strong enough for the filter. So they get stuck to the side of the intake tube and they aren't big enough to pull away. And will she actually have any babies or will the dead fry be it?

If shes been in the trap all her life how did she get pregnant
she has aborted through stress, therefore needs to be put back in the main tank asap before she becomes ill through stress.
if you have a problem with the filter being to powerfull for what ever size tank it is this needs seeing too. :(

She has been in a breeder trap with her brothers and sisters for their whole life and then when I found out she was pregnant I gave all my boys away and now in my whole tank I only have girls.

So will she have any babies?
ANd just to let everyone know I put her back into the bigger trap to be with her sisters.
