Will Discus do fine bythemselves and some schooling fish or should you keep at least two discus together?

What about an angel and a discus?

Is there any any type of discus that is easier to keep than another?

Lastley, if you are not into breeing discus but want them for a nice tank display does the water have to be soft?

I have kept and bred numerous angels with my hard water with no problems. Just wanting to know about discus.

bugsy :)

I would keep Discus in a group of at least 3.

Discus and angels will be fine together.

Dosnt matter to much if you do regular w/c's and take good care of them.

If you are not breeding then as long as your pH and other parameters are stable than thats good and dont try to alter pH.

Discus generally do better in groups, but I would not have 2. one will be dominant and usually pick on the submissive one. I would get 4+ or just 1, 4+ obviously being the preference. Discus can be kept with angels, although you are running a risk because some angels carry a disease that discus are susceptible to but doesn't affect the angels themselves. However i have kept these two together with no problems other than the occasional confrontation always ending in the angel backing down first. Water does not have to be soft, although this is preferred, but it is much better to have water that is consistently harder than water that constantly fluctuates. If you are planning on breeding an RO unit is necessary to soften the water.
