i recently bought a new hood and it has space for 2 bulbs, they are both 40w bulbs.
do you think i should use both bulbs, or buy a moon light?

ive heard that too much light in a mbuna tank drains the fishes colour, is that true?

I have never heard of too much light harming fish. How many gallons is the tank? Watts per Gallon (WPG) is calculated simply by adding the total wattage of the tubes and dividing by the tank volume in US Gallons i.e. a 50 Gallon tank with 100W light gives 2 WPG.

0 to 1 WPG Very Low
1 to 2 WPG Low to Medium
2 to 3 WPG Medium to Medium High
3 to 4 WPG or above- Medium High to High
Over 4 WPG High to Very High

(this is George Farmers work!)

(I know this is just for plants and stuff, but it will give you the idea of how much power your lights are actually putting out!)

the tank is 39UK gallons.
do you think i should buy a small moonlight, and have the 2 40w tubes in there?

I don't think so only because lighting isn't very important to africans. Wait for another opinion though.

I'd go with both bulbs, 2 x 40W definately isn't overkill - that amount of light certainly won't wash out the colours, it will only help to display them.

If you want moonlights, add them seperately - it's easy enough to do. :good:
