i have noticed my betta has got a few twisted fins on its main tail. it looks like 2 or 3 strands are twisted, like when you twist the end of wire together.

he seems heathly, eating swimming about etc. is this something to worry about and how do i correct it?

cheers

by this, you'd mean curled rays on a crowntail betta? I was wondering the exact same thing.... I think I read somewhere that flaring can help correct crooked rays, but I'm not entirely certain on that.... but I'll wait around and watch for an answer with you!

ive got one in my tank, been in for about 3 days now. my lfs suggested netting him out and un twisting them. i thought this though would stress him no end, do more harm than good.

OMG um twisting them! They've got to be kidding!!! Twisted fins is usually caused from fin rot. IAL should help it or try some Betta revive. Also you can put a little aquarium salt in his water. I use salt in all of my Betta water when I do water changes.

In those cups they sell them in as your bettas fins grew they probbaly were cramped and grew like that, with more room to swim now, and the epson salt or indian almond leaf, his fins should straighten out. One of my crowntail bettas has this issue and now he is looking so much better. He had fin rot, so once that healed his fins improved.

, i even asked if it was the start of fin rot but they said betta's do that sometimes and it may clear up on its own.

is the epson salt ok in the tank with my other fish/shrimp/snails?

i have 6 pygmy corries, 4 rasbora, 4 ember tetra's, cherry shrimp, MTS

how much would you put into a 40ltr tank and for how long etc?

i'm gutted he is not 100%, would like him better

cheers

dont put any epson salt into the tank as cories cannot tolerate it, i think if it doesn't start healing then maybe try a salt bath :good:

thanks for the info. glad i asked the question. now i gotta find another home for him in case i need a plan b.

more of his fins are stuck together tonight, his top fin is completed mated. think im going to give him a salt bath tomorrow.

as i don't have a spare tank could i put him in a sandwich box while i give him a salt bath. it will hold about 1ltr of water, how much salt should i use?

Before you go treating the betta, it would probably be a good idea to post a picture so that the condition can be verified.
