Hello

I am new to all of this aquarium business and have been reading through all of the material posted by so many of you.

I was not aware of the cycle process when we took over the tank from a friend and probably rinsed it out a little to well. But thanks to all the info and tips we seem to be making it through ok.
10 gallon Tank
Ammonia is at .5 but I’m using amqualplus for the ammonia level
15% water changes every other day (watching water temp closely and i am adding the chlorine remover product.)
Nitrites and Nitrates are showing in the safe area if not at zero very close to it.
2 Danio
2 Diamond Tetras

The pH is low in the tank so i tested my water from the faucet and found the same thing. I'm not going to worry about that until the tank if fully cycled.

Unless you all think i should but from what i read messing with it can do more harm then good.

SO here is the issue.
One night i went downstairs about 2 hours later i came back and the Danio's tell looked twisted. I did LOTS of research and decided maybe it was clamped. SO that is when I purchased the amquel and began the every other day water change.
Mean while 2 weeks later fish all look happy no signs of bumps or fuzz red gills, white dots, anything.
But danio's fin still looks twisted.
If you look very closely it almost looks like something has gotten wrapped around it, a very fine hair or string maybe.

He still swims fast and is giving the other danio a run for his money.
Should i just leave it alone or what.

Any help is appreciated and thanks again for all of your previous help via other posts.

I dont know a lot about danios, but with my danios, They are tough little guys.
My danios have cycled 4 tanks.
They are now retired in my bottom 10G after a good, hard working life.
There was many time I thought none of them would make it.
But they did.
So I'd say if he's still alive and well, and he hasn't slowed down considerably, I'd say hes fine.
If you arent comfertable with him like that, you can surely give him back to the store you bought him from, and they'll medicate him, get him better, ect.
And you can get another one.
BUT it might just be a birth defect. Did you say you bought him like this?
Or maybe it was some weird affect feom you changing the watetr so much.

I'd suggest only changing the water once a week. It puts much less stress on the fish.
You do have a filter right? Or do you change it so often to make up for a filter?

thanks for the quick responce.

We got the tank from a friend and he came with it. The tail thing happend in a matter of two hours. He was fine when i came back up it had gotten twisted.

I have a filter, i started doing more frequent water changes after i found out about cycling and ammonia thanking this was the cause of what i thought might have been clamped fin.

I am considering cutting back to 10% water change a week since it's doesn't seem to be a water issue that is causeing the tail issue.

Good, very Good.
I see now.......
Well, my advice hasn't changed. You could bring him to any petstore that sells fish, I'm sure they'll take him happily, and the buy a new one.
Or if you want to keep him, you can, but I dont think ity'll get any better.
Its good that you did research, and got med.s and everything, which shows what a dedicated fishkeeper you are.
Sorry if this isn't the advice you were hoping for, :dunno:

God Bless,
Colin

Thank you

I will keep him twisted tail and all.
I've asked him nicely to hold still sto i can get the string that i think is wrapped around his tail but he is to busy chasing his buddy to comply.

If he's happy who am i to judge. I guess we all get a little twisted from time to time anyway.
