hi i want some twig lookin wood for my aquarium
can i use twigs and branches that i find outside if i boil it first and then soak in water ( basically treat it like bogwood)
i want to add moss to the wood like ive seen
can i do this

i was wondering this as well and i then read an articvle on doing "leaf litter" in a tank and they say that the best to use is Oak and Beech - they need boiling for an hour the article said and then they should just sink in your tank and not leech anything

If you use dead wood it should be fine I believe, not wood that is still green. I want to try the leaf litter, to make a tank more natural.

Anyone have much experience on the leaf litter front? I'm guessing they'd have to be collected in the Autumn and dried?

Make sure the woods been dead for a long time, meanin years

Make sure its hardwood too

or it will break down

Pine,Cedar not a good choice they are softwood

what tree are you gonna try the branches off of

Autumn is generally the best time to collect Oak/beech leaves, although Beech leaves sometimes stay on the trees (dead) through winter. You could also try catappa leaves Visit My Website

Just boil the leaves until they sink.

You know I never thought of adding wood to a tank from your own trees...I have a Pin Oak in my backyard that I might try to get some dead wood from!

Fishkiller_nomore had a project using a few dead leaves and twigs. Seem to remember it looked really good (small beta tank) (Pics don't seem to be working in his thread though :( )

Redwood, Manzanita, Juniper, Madrone oak, White bark pine i heard and cypress and beech

Oak is good too MAKE sure its Aged Dense Wood
