I have a turquoise severum that has laid her eggs. The other fish in my tank is a totally different type of cichlid. My question-- Is it normal for a fish (that I thought was male) to spawn even though there is no male in the tank with her to fertilize the eggs? I feel bad because I will have to vaccuum up her little could be babies. Will she still guard the spot or will she realize that there is nothing to guard anymore and be the normal fish that she was? This may sound weird but I don't want her to go into a depression and die.
Thanx if anyone can answer.

It might guard them, it might not.. lots of female cichlids seem to lay eggs when there are no males capable of fertilizing the eggs. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
