Jewel cichlids are actually an african cichlid so you may get a better answer on that particular forum,
however i believe that it is quite hit and miss with jewels, adult males are usually more colourful, but i don't really know of any other difference

Im not sure of the difference either. I think you may have to see if they liquidate each other soon, if they dont you may have a pair or two females.
How bigs the tank?

thanks, i'll see how they get on

they are in the 90 but will be moving them to either a 10 or 15 gallon just for them.

those are really pretty, way different then the red variety :good:

wow love the jewels Gill you are so good at getting nice colourful fish which suit your tank   I am so jealous lol like davo86 said maybe try in the african cichlid section :good:

thanks, What you don't know is that i will watch fish for weeks in the LFS before buying them to see how they are and the way they interact with tankmates.

I have Specifically chosen all the fish i have now for their colors and compatability.

You want some babies if they have any.

yeah, i thought thtey were reds untill they started to color up. happier that they are the turquoise variety.

lease Gill would be great :good:What are they like with other fish ?? ps ill send cabomba either today or tomo :good:

ok

they seem shy for now - but have read that they can hold there own against larger fish well

Very Nice! That is kinda weird, when jewel's get stressed, there speckling get's more pronounced, adn those are really sprakling, so how did you manage to think they were red's?????? lol, great find no the less!

in the LFs they were dull and more red was present in their color. but once they were home and no stressed the turquoise colors came thru.
I've reserved 3 more to get a good group of them for pairing off.

I just noticed that too. I just picked one up, but the other one they had was red with turquoise just breaking through.

yep once the turquoise comes thru they are amazing.

i think i have 2 males, they have been chasing each other and flaring alot this morning.

That's not good. Are you going to wait for the others, or take one of them back?
