Hi,

Is there anyone here who can advise?

Is it ok to turn an internal filter on its side, will it still work, will it cause issues?

I need to agitate the water round the gravel in my fluval chi (turning in to a nightmare of a tank), as the built in filter, although has been good enough clearing ammonia levels, does not really 'suck' the floating bits up.

My plan was to put a small internal, fluval mini or suchlike, on it's side with a spraybar to agitate the lower levels of the water and use that filter to help gather the bits.

Thanks.

Some will work, but not all. It should say on the box if they will, as it's a good selling point!

If you can't fine one that will, you can always point the spray bar straight downwards and that ought to do the job for you.

I used a fluval 4 plus on its side for 10 years no problem.

Thanks.

fluttermoth: if I can't find one I will stick to daily maintenance as agitating the water sends the bits floating around and the built in filter doesn't clean them up.

star4: yes, I have a U3 in another tank so will see what it says on the box, but I need a small one as it's for the Fluval Chi tank. I will check the details on the Fluval Mini filter.

Alasse: as mentioned, it's not just to move the water it's to work alongside the built in filter, do the job of clearing the bits. Thanks though.

If it works, I will give it a few months and may look at removing the built in light/filter unit and just run the new internal with a clip on light....get back the space the extra filter takes up.

I used to have mine upside down so it didn't suck up sand.
Then I realized it had a flow controller switch about 2 months later. :x
