NO3 is probably zero due to swapping bio-wheel out in favor of the cascade 1000 canister filter a few weeks ago. They were at around 10-20 (usually 20) before the swap. The week following the swap it dwindled down to zero and has been zero for a week or so. Eco-Complete was added on top of existing substrate about a week prior to this. So this could also attribute to this going down. I dont know if NO3 drop could be the cause or not, but this is about when the boom hit.

Ferts used
Day 1 Flourish trace and iron
Day 2 Potassium
Day 3 Pro-Growth with iron and nitrogens
Day 4 off
Day 5 Potassium
Day 6 Flourish trace and iron
Day 7 off
repeat
Did it this way due to not having Flourish Nitro yet. Getting some next week. so should help with fert cycle

There is NO direct or indirect sunlight in room. All windows covered with roman shades and blinds underneath that. LFS said that maybe it was a phosphate boom or something. But dont have a test for anything like that. So will take some water in during the week to have it completely tested for everything till i find this problem out.

Despite boom, plants are growing well. Will also be adding some more stem plants next weekend to help combat this. Cutting some of the dense areas on rotala off and removing from tank and hand cleaning some of the leaves on other plants. Added two "real" SAE's this weekend to help out. Also stopped feeding algae wafers for a few days to the plecs hoping they might help a little for once. Doing the same with SAE, only feeding rainbows and rainbow shark hoping this will make the algae crew a little hungry.

Ok that is about all i can remember atm. I have read about a variety of factors that could cause this, such as my lack of macro nutrients at the moment, to phosphates, to potassium overdose. So dont know where to really target. Any help appreciated. Tried to be as clear as possible.

you can see it on the edges here and on java fern just above

I take it you don't have a phosphate test kit.
high PO4- could be the cause.
both PO4- and NO3 could come directly out of your tap water.

The disruption in your biological filtration caused by losing your bio-wheel may have caused your algae due to an ammonium spike.

Keep on top of CO2 (30ppm), NO3 dosing, possible PO4 dosing (high PO4 does not cause algae in a healthy planted tank) and K. Maybe add more plants too.

Coincidentally Tom Barr has been active on here recently so it is fitting that I recommend EI - http://www.barrreport.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2062 and for more detail - http://www.barrreport.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1

well i think it must of been an ammonia spike. Since this was the exact time the algae began. I lost 4 kuhli loaches during this time, so that might explain that as well. After a little grooming cleaning some of the plants, it seams to have gone down some. Plus, my SAE's have been going to town on it. They have yet to eat flake food that i have seen and just stay on the plants during feeding. Hopefully in a week or two, it will be back to norms on filter. Thanks for the help and will keep everyone updated.
