Hi, I have had a pair of Bolivian Rams in a breeding tank for about a week now and so far they have just swam around together and at some point during each day the male will start flaring his fins and chasing the female all over the tank, during this time his colours become significantly more vibrant. However the female becomes really stressed and turns a darker colour. Then the next day they are getting on perfectly again, alway staying close to each other and feeding together. So are they going to breed or am I waisting my time. The P.H is around 7.2-7.4 not sure on hardness but it isn't that soft.

I had a pair of Rams that did the same thing. They were certainly going to spawn in my main tank, then when I moved them to a breeder they did nothing for 3 weeks. I think some pairs may just get too stressed from being moved and wont want to spawn.

Is the tank you put them into planted? I think if you put a lot of plants in there they would be more likely to spawn. Also, if you have a second female it could help to put her in the breeding tank as well until another pair forms.

Good luck.

The tank is not planted but has bogwood and slate to create hiding places. I have added some dither fish to make them less stressed. I don't have any other rams I bought them as they were the only ones in the shop. The guy said they look like a pair and I think I agree with him when they're getting on well! I will buy some Elodea and put that in and see what happens.
Thanks Jakester
