OK. I had a problem with my neons about 5 weeks ago. They had dark spots on them. I posted about it in this thread:

http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=159129&hl=

Quick summary: The tank is at work. The filter had stopped over a weekend. I brought in filter media from home, and assumed things would be OK. However, I had a mini-cycle, and the amonia got a bit over 0.5 My neons developed dark spots. I did water changes, and the amonia was gone within a day of my noticing the spots on the fish.

So, to try to help the fish get better faster, I added a half dose of aquarium salt to the tank. A couple weeks later, I added another half dose. (the first dose had been diluted from weekly 20% water changes)

Now, it is 5 weeks later. The fish are not getting any better, although they are not noticably worse either. I re-tested amonia and nitrates today, they were 0 and 10.

There are 7 neons in the tank. 3-4 look just fine. The other 3-4 are in this bunch of pictures:

edit: for some reason I am having trouble with the img tags, so there is a link to the pics

I tried to seperate it to one fish per column of pics. However, the bottom right pic belongs in the middle column. Also, it's hard for me to keep track of them, so I may have mixed some pics up.

As you can see, they have some pale spots, near the tail. There are also some dark spots. It's hard to tell from the pics, but the areas near the tail are raised, especially on the fish in the middle column.

The fish on the right looks OK at the tail, but looks to me to have NTD. The red strip is funny. Maybe they all have NTD?

Anyway, I have only been at this fish thing about a year, so please advise about what they might have, and/or what I can do.

Thanks!

Bump. Anyone know what is wrong with the neons, based on the pics and description? I didn't post this in the emergency section because they have been like this for weeks, so I didn't think it was quite an emergency. However, maybe it would have been a better section to post in anyway.

Thanks for any input.

I had that with my neons and it was ntd would start of black, then go white and i can see in the pics that there is white patches on the red stripe, you could try a bacterial med just to make sure its not false ntd, which is saddle back columnaris.

Can you issoalte the neons.

I found out how to enlarge the pic, yes exactly how my neons looked, sorry it looks like ntd to me.
I tryed a bacterial med just to be on the safe side but it did nothing confirming ntd.
I would do the same, I would issolate them if you can.

1. Some would bloat up, one had popeye on top.
2. Some went thin.
3. Some had lumps on there bellies that went to a point.
4. Would stay on there own, towards the end they would start to spin.

5. Totally lost all there colour they looked weird.
