I have a 29 gallon tank that has been set up for about two weeks, with two java ferns in it and some rocks, not too exciting yet.

My concience is telling my that the 20 watt flourescent fixture is not enough light as i want a fully planted and natural tank in the long run.

I have looked everywhere for a 30" strip light with at least 40- 50 watts with no luck.

can anyone help me out or direct me to where i can buy a good lighting/ hood fixture thats not too expensive? I only have a budget of about 100$.

Thanks alot.

Your in the same boat as I was. I had a 20 watt on my 29 gal. I don't think you'll find a bulb that's more than 20 watts for a 29 gallon. You could go to a double light strip that would give you 40 watts, but that would still be considered a low light tank. I just ordered a compact fluoresent 65 watt for my tank, but I had to change to a glass top. Try Big Al's online. They have a wide selection.

This same problem is what turned me off to planted tanks (at least until my birthday ^^). The cost of a compact flourescent lighting fixture and new glass top was triple that of a few good looking fake plants and driftwood, so with the limited funding I have available, I decided I'd save planting my aquarium for the summer.

Once the funds come back in, though, I'm going to purchase this for my 29 gallon and run it at half power until I'm heavily planted. Shop around, though; I like DrsFosterSmith because they ship fast, but other places may have better deals

Good luck with your tank!

EDIT- for your budget, this would be a good option, though it would only be 2.25 WPG, that's good for a wide variety of live plants.
