Ive had a 16 gallon tropical tank for about 2 months, Its got platys, balloon mollys, albino catfish, neon tetras and black neon tetras. About a week ago i noticed most of them had white spot, so i gave them some White spot medicine but it doesnt seem to be clearing up, already lost one molly. Any suggestions on clearing up the white spot? :(

Tank size: about 16 gallons
pH: 7.0
ammonia: 0.25
nitrite: 0.50
nitrate: 5.0
kH:
gH: What is kH and gH?
tank temp: usually 24, raised to 29 today attempting to get rid of white spot

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior): all are behaving normally except one platy who lays on the bottom alot.

Volume and Frequency of water changes: 20% of water once a week

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: Dont know exactly what you mean by this,

Tank inhabitants: 2 albino catfish, 2 balloon mollys, 6 platys, 10 black neon tetras, 20-something neon tetras

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): 4 balloon mollys (2 died), 3 platys, about 2 weeks ago.

Exposure to chemicals: I've been treating them with King British White Spot Control (Active ingredient: malachite green, acriflavine, quinine sulphate), King British Plant food. (active ingredient: trace elements)
King British Safe Water, (Active ingredient: natural micro organisms [removes harmful ammonia+nitrite]), King British Safe Guard (Active ingredients: Soduim thiosulphate, EDTA, Sodium sulphate [removes chlorine])

hi,
i would try and treat the whitespot asap
especially with the neon tetras because they are not very hardy and are in some danger ! if the whitespot is bad
good luck i hope all you fish survive!!!

I am having trouble shifting white spot from my tank after using King british whitespot control. on my fourth treatment ie 1 dose every 48 hours and its just seems to keep coming back. i am think about another make of treatment like Waterlife or Interpet as recommended in the sticky about whitespot. :/

Interpet as recommended

I've used this; treatment no 6- white spot plus or something, with success.

If you're going to switch meds though, get some carbon in the filter to get rid of the old meds first. Not quite sure how long it'll take to remove though, perhaps someone experienced can advise? I'd drop the temp too to slow down the infection, whilst the carbon is in there.

Whoa..where is your ammonia coming from? Is your tank cycled? Perhaps your tank is overstocked and the number of fish are overwhelming your biological filter? Comments? SH

Some sites reccomended raising the temp, so i continued with the medication and raised the temp a little, fish seem happier, swimming around alot more, spots fading on a couple of the platys.
