i want to setup a tank for tropical sharks, what shark species are compatible with each other? and what size tank do they require? and do you look after them just like tropical fish?

There are many different freshwater "sharks", they all have their own minimum tank size requirements, needs, temperaments, etc. You can't really generalize their care.

and im guessing you italized shark since there are no true freshwater sharks since fresh sharks mainly fall into the cyprinid category.

well the "sharks" you can get aren't really sharks, but if you were thinking along the line of red-tails, rainbows etc - its best to only keep one of one type of shark per tank, as they do not appreciate each other company. The only exception is the bala shark - with which it is preferable to keep more provided you have a big enough tank.

Actually, there are, though you will never see them at your lfs anyway ;) .

cool, what type of shark are they called?

There are a handful of true freshwater sharks. They're all pretty rare. Perhaps the best known is the Ganges Shark - which is not confined exclusively to the Ganges and has been recorded in other big Indian river systems such as the Brahmaputra.
At almost two feet in length at birth, you're not going to be seeing one at your LFS!
